Recap: Beware the Batman, "Sacrifice"
Dang it, Beware the Batman, I praise you for the theme, and you don't show it this week. Is it a time saving thing? Well, let's see what they needed those extra 20 seconds for.

Sketchbook: "Electro" Redesign
It's quite easy to critique. It's amazingly easy to say, "You're doing that wrong" without knowing how it's done. So in my own way, I'm going to be stepping up to the plate. Because redesigning and revamping characters and costumes is "in" in the comic book industry, I'm throwing my hat into the ring. For the internet's consideration, I present the first of my character redesigns: Electro.
Time to get some spiffy new duds, Max. |

Recap: Beware the Batman, "Control"
This episode was an interesting experience, in a good way. So, I started watching, and I knew that something was up. But I couldn't tell what it was at fir-OH MY GOD THEY PLAYED THE WHOLE THEME THIS TIME. I can’t tell you how much that does for my enjoyment. No,
seriously. A good theme, even if it’s only 18 seconds like this one,
does wonders in terms of getting me pumped. Even the theme for the
Super Hero Squad Show picks me up a bit before the crap-fest that
follows.
Anyway, now I can critique the intro for realsies! The intro is nice and moody, using only red and black. It features Alfred, Katana, and Batman in little action shots, and ends with Batman swooping off of a building. Awesome. The song is awesome sauce, too. I don’t know why some Batman shows like to have themes that are almost James Bond-esque, but I approve, especially here.

Recap/Review: Avengers EMH "To Steal an Ant-Man"
You know, I’ve been thinking about my audience. As you can (as of 9/16/13) see down at the “Popular Posts” area to the right, the most popular two posts of mine are the Avengers Assemble one (which, although I liked it, I gave a thorough physics lesson to), and an episode of HatAoS, a show which I utterly trashed.
What does that mean? Is my audience primarily composed of people who want me to bash the brains out of Marvel cartoons? Do they just want me to rant and rave about things I hate?
I guess not, because the majority of you voted for "To Steal an Ant-Man" as the Recap to celebrate 5000 views! Today, we’re going to look at a good episode of a good show.

Recap/Review: The Super Hero Squad Show, "And Lo... A Pilot Shall Come!"
There’s a concept in Hollywood known as “dualing,” or “dueling.” Basically, two production companies will make similar products and fight for popularity.
Finding Nemo vs. Shark’s Tale
Monsters Inc. vs. Shrek
The Dark Knight vs. Iron Man
Cop Out vs. The Other Guys
The Simpsons vs. Family Guy
Angry Video Game Nerd vs. Nostalgia Critic
Today, I’m going to look at the other half of the “Child-Friendly Super Hero Cartoon with Nods to Classic Comics for Fans” battle.
Batman: the Brave and the Bold vs. The Super Hero Squad Show.
While both shows fit that bill, B:TBATB focused on the “Nods to Classic Comics for Fans” part while today’s show, The Super Hero Squad Show focused on the “Child-Friendly” part. Let’s see how that worked out as I take a look at the first episode of The Super Hero Squad Show, “And Lo… A Pilot Shall Come!”

It'd be funny if the title actually referred to Falcon piloting the helicarrier. |

Recap/Review: B:TAS "Legends of the Dark Knight"
Remember the last recap I did? I’d like to bring your attention back to this quote I’ve repeated over the NewtCave:
Bat-Mite: "Batman's rich history allows him to be interpreted in a multitude of ways. To be sure, this is a lighter incarnation, but it's certainly no less valid and true to the character's roots as the tortured avenger crying out for mommy and daddy. AND BESIDES, THOSE EASTER BUNNIES LOOKED REALLY SCARY, RIGHT?!"
What Bat-Mite was getting at is that there is no “definitive Batman.” Since the 30’s, Batman has been reinterpreted over and over and over. Today, I’m here to recap and review an episode of Batman: the Animated Series (well, The New Batman Adventures, technically) that set out to say something along similar lines, “Legends of the Dark Knight.”
Now before we begin, let me set the stage for this version of Batman: He’s Batman.
Well, that’s all you need to know! Seriously, this show has probably the most generic Batman ever. That’s not a criticism, but an observation, and I’m not saying this in a negative way. I’m just saying that this version of Batman is probably the easiest to jump right into because it has the most familiar elements for the average person with a passing familiarity with Batman, but it doesn’t add too many of its own quirks to the mix to confuse newcomers.
It’s pretty refreshing when compared to versions like Beware the Batman that like to invent their own additions to the mythos. And with that, let’s begin!
